The certificate for omega.contacts.msn.com could not be validated. The certificate chain presented is invalid.

It looks like the MSN certificate got expired for pidgin.

Please remove the file omega.contacts.msn.com. present under /root/.purple/certificates/x509/tls_peers/ or /home/username/.purple/certificates/x509/tls_peers/

Download the same from http://files.andreineculau.com/projects/pidgin/omega.contacts.msn.com.txt. Once it has been downloaded, move it as omega.contacts.msn.com from omega.contacts.msn.com.txt.

Restart Pidgin, it should work properly. πŸ™‚

um.. seems bit tricky!! have you tried rebooting the machine or by configuring with any other MSN account?

      • Drusselnahg says:

Same as above .. I got the error message 90% of the time .. sometimes, pidgin is able to connect.

I’m using windows 7. I’ve reinstalled Pidgin rinstallation , and removed my .purple directory.

      • MuzikMonkey says:

just keep hitting reconnect, eventually it will work… it’s been happening for several days now. the first few times i deleted the .com file, but in the last 2 days i just continually hit ‘reconnect’ , sometimes it works after 3-4 tries sometimes 10. but it works every time πŸ™‚

Removed omega.contacts.msn.com on Friday, been chatting all weekend, today busy chatting I go AFK for a few minutes and have the same message again: “Unable to validate certificate

The certificate for omega.contacts.msn.com could not be validated. The certificate chain presented is invalid.”

Did the same, deleted omega.contacts.msn.com and seems to be fine for now, just wander how long until that pops up again.
